We’re required to consider all permit applications

Friday, April 2, 2010

One of the questions frequently asked of us about controversial permit applications is why we even consider those applications. There’s a very simple answer to that question: We’re legally obligated to consider every permit application submitted.

There is a rigorous set of standards for evaluating and either approving or denying permit applications, but every application submitted must be evaluated. While some controversial permit applications evoke emotional responses among some members of the public opposed to the issuance of those specific permits, the District’s evaluation and decisions are based on facts and scientific analysis, and are governed by a set of laws and rules that apply to all applications.

That is truly a shame the environmental work the district does do is more political than science. Scientific Method, when used to find the path is far more enlightening than used to find compromise.
