The National Research Council (NRC), which the St. Johns River Water Management District engaged to conduct an independent expert review of the study of the potential environmental impacts of St. Johns River withdrawals, on Thursday released its second report on the progress of the St. Johns River Water Supply Impact Study.
The report is available through the National Academy of Sciences Web site.
As the District continues its investigation and work with water supply utilities on water conservation and the development of alternative water supplies, such as water from lakes, rivers and the ocean, to supplement groundwater supplies, the study is furthering the science on the St. Johns River.
The District launched the study in the fall of 2007, and it is currently scheduled for completion in July 2011.
Details about the study and the potential to expand the use of the St. Johns River as a water supply are available on the District’s Web site.
Public water conservation workshop on Dec. 7
Thursday, December 3, 2009
The District Governing Board will have its second public workshop on Monday (Dec. 7) to discuss proposed enhancements to current water conservation requirements. The workshop will begin at 1 p.m. at the District’s headquarters in Palatka.
As with its first workshop in November, the Board is very interested in getting input from the public, water suppliers and local governments.
Both workshops are opportunities for the Board to discuss more ideas relating to rule changes that would strengthen water conservation requirements.
The concepts to be discussed are available on our dedicated Web page.
